Woman found dead at water reservoir in Selep Tank
Gangtok, September 18: On Friday evening, it was informed that a 27-year-old woman had committed suicide by jumping into the water reservoir located at Selep Tank, Upper Burtuk, Gangtok. The woman was a resident of the same area.
An FIR was lodged by the deceased’s uncle, Buddha Tamang. The incident reportedly occurred at around 10:30 A.M. on September 18. An investigation revealed that the deceased was seen by villagers heading towards the water reservoir tank, and later, the mother of the deceased informed of the same.
Following which the mother, accompanied by other villagers, went to the water reservoir tank to search for the deceased and her body was found inside the water tank. The drowned body was later retrieved from the tank with the help of the State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) team.
The deceased allegedly suffered from a prolonged illness of Seizure Disorder and Epilepsy. She was seeking treatment from STNM Hospital for her mental illnesses and suffered from bouts of suicidal tendencies. The case is under investigation and the body has been taken to CRH, Manipal Hospital, 5th Mile for medical-legal autopsy.
The FIR has been lodged u/s 174 Cr.P.C at around 1 P.M. Section 174 in The Code Of Criminal Procedure, 1973 dictating ‘Police to enquire and report on suicide, etc.’
