Mangan, 11th March: A waiting shed in the premises of District Hospital Mangan was inaugurated by the chief guest Hon’ble Minister for Forest, Environment & Wildlife Department, Shri. Karma Loday Bhutia, today. The opening also had the presence of Hon’ble area MLA Dzongu and Advisor Power Department Shri. Pintso Namgyal Lepcha and Additional Political Secretary (North) to the Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri. Tshering Wangyal Bhutia. District Collector (North) Shri.Tenzing.T.Kaleon, SP (North) Smt. Ongmu Bhutia, CMO (DHM), DMS (DHM), Director North Sikkim Academy Shri Namgyal Phuntso Kazi, officers and staff of DHM, Forest department and the public were present for the event.
Mr. Hon’ble Minister expressed his delight in being able to contribute and be a part of a good cause. It may be mentioned here that the waiting shed has been constructed in the memory and to honour Late Mrs. BasantiSundas, Auxillary Nursing Midwifery, a frontline warrior who lost her life in the line of duty in September 2020. The waiting shed is of utmost need for the hospital as it often rains in the area and the patients waiting usually get wet or seek shelter inside, resulting into a crowd. Due to the pandemic, it is also necessary to follow social distancing in public places and the shed provides a seating area with ample space for the patients to wait.
The Hon’ble Minister said that Late Mrs. Sundas is an example for all to follow, as her dedication to the service of people has been beyond exemplary. She put her duty before herself and a service as rare as that should be a shining example. He also advised everyone to reflect of the challenges and the changes that the pandemic has brought about into our daily lives and to channelize it towards something productive and positive like staying fit and healthy through regular exercises and yoga, eating healthy, having a disciplined lifestyle and building a good immune system.
He thanked Shri. Namgyal Phuntso Kazi for playing a very important role of an educator and a social worker He stated that it was people like Mr. Kazi who took the responsibility of equipping children with education and exposure and thereby creating a future of literate, educated and confident children from the district.
He urged the doctors and the people, both to develop a sense of brotherhood, be selfless towards those in need, take the example of Late Mrs. Sundas and serve the society with an altruistic spirit.
DHM presented the Hon’ble Minister, Hon’ble Area MLA (Dzongu), Additional Political Secretary (North) to Hon’ble Chief Minister with a token of appreciation for providing and contributing during times of need and for their constant support and aid.

The spouse of Late Mrs. BasantiSundas accepted the citation for her service and thanked the doctors and staff of DHM. He also thanked the government for celebrating her life and the support provided to him and his family. He stated that his wife has left a legacy for others to follow. He encouraged everyone to work towards community growth through diligence, just like his late wife did.
A coordination meeting with the CMO and doctors of DHM, Hon’ble Minister, Hon’ble Area MLA (Dzongu), Additional Political Secretary (North) to Hon’ble Chief Minister, District Collector (North) took place after the programme where the immediate requirements and needs for DHM were discussed to bring about proper and quality treatment for the people of the district.
