SPYF: THE STUDENTS HAVE PAID HEAVILY FOR A DIALOUGE WITH THE EDUCATION MINISTER
The expulsion of four students of Geyzing Government College owing to the growing tension between the state government and Sikkim Progressive Youth Forum (SPYF) has created havoc across the state.
Moreover, the college administration failing to provide any sensible reasoning has all the more disturbed the minds of the public.
Earlier this month, around 30 students of Geyzing Government College had camped at Education Department near Tashiling Secretariat and demanded a meeting with the State Education Minister concerning the establishment of a proper college campus. Their demands were overlooked and on February 5, 18 male students from the group were detained by the police at night.
One of the students involved in the recent protest and now expelled is also a member of the SPYF. The SPYF in a series of face book posts condemned the expulsion orders and termed it as “an attempt to suppress the voice of conscious students”.
‘They students have paid heavily for a dialogue with the Education Minister’, SPYF posted.
Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) condemned the expulsion of the four college students in a press statement. “This is a highly cowardly act of the SKM government, where political powers is being utilized to crackdown on dissent and abridge citizens’ fundamental rights of free expression and speech. HSP demands the Government of Sikkim to reinstate the students at the earliest or HSP shall come forth to highly oppose it,” said HSP president Dr. Bina Basnett.
Students from across the state have slammed the state government for expelling the four students over various social media platforms.
