The Under 19 Men’s team of Sikkim who were playing their last match of the Multi-Day Tournament “Cooch Behar Trophy” at Bhubaneswar, Odisha won the match on the 28th December by an innings and 41 runs against Mizoram. The match was played at KIIT Cricket Stadium, Odisha.
Mizoram won the toss and elected to bat first. An excellent show of bowling put up by the Sikkim bowlers which bundled out Mizoram for the total score of 68 runs in 29.4 overs in their first innings. The duo of spin attack of Ankur Malik and captain Tarun Sharma took 5 wickets and 3 wickets respectively, Bijay Prasad and Purna Bdr Bhattrai took 1 wicket each with their pace attack. In reply U16 Sikkim scored scored 216 runs in 58.5 overs. Excellent batting performance was showed by MD Arif with 51 runs, and were equally supported by Purna 35, Arun Chettri 28, Adarsh Pandey 27, Nischal Subba 21, Tarun 17, and Roshan Prasad 13 runs, which gave the first innings lead to Sikkim by 148 runs.
The same bowling performance was again seen in the second innings, and the Mizoram side was all-out for 107 runs in 57.4 overs giving Sikkim an outright win with an innings and 41 runs. Once again Ankur took 6 wickets, Purna 2 and Tarun 1 wicket.
Brilliant teamwork was showcased, resulting in a massive win.
