Sikkim sees second-highest spike with 95 new COVID-19 cases
Gangtok, August 4: Sikkim reported its second-highest daily spike in COVID-19 cases after 95 new patients tested positive.
According to the daily Health Bulletin by Director General cum Health Secretary Dr Pempa T Bhutia, the total number of active cases now stand at 783.
East district reported 58 new cases and the South reported 37 new cases. The number of cases in West and North district remain the same.
It was informed that 91 cases were reported via RT-PCR out of 855 tests conducted and the other four via Rapid Antigen testing out of 115 samples.
37 of the fresh cases are from Mamring, South Sikkim.
In the East district, 31 were reported from Chanatar, Rangpo; 22 from Indchemie Pharma, Kumrek and one from Transit camp where four bus drivers and 14 truck drivers were staying.
Out of 102 samples collected from Rangpo, four tested positive – three out of 95 returnees and one through contact tracing.
The Working Womens’ Hostel at Deorali has been de-notified as a containment zone as all the primary and other contacts have tested negative.
Similarly, contacts of Arithang and Syari have tested negative and samples of Vishal Gaon is awaited.
Two patients were discharged after being cured and four patients remain in the ICU of New STNM Hospital, Sochyakgang.
The Health Secretary clarified the delay in reporting cases is due to the higher numbers of samples being collected and tested. He requested people not to rush for unnecessary testing as it will delay the reports of serious and emergency cases.
