Sikkim Police arrested Sanjay Jangid, resident of Rajasthan for duping Rs15 lakhs from Rangpo and Rongli residents. Police acting upon three FIRs against the accused arrested him from Punjab on September 18.
Addressing a presser, SP Pakyong District, Karma Gyamtso Bhutia said, “The accused owned a Hardware shop at Rangpo, wherein he took money from the complainants assuring them to supply construction materials. When the victims contacted accused for the supply of the materials, the accused assured them that after Covid restrictions the materials will be supplied. The process of calling went on until all four Sim-cards of the accused were not reachable. Then after one victim registered a FIR on June 29, 2021 and the investigation was initiated”.
After the complaint, police rigorously started search, acting upon a lead Sikkim police found one of his close friend to be from Arunachal Pradesh through which the accused was traced at Mohali, Punjab.
Following to the day of arrest on September 18, Sikkim Police along with the help of Punjab Police and bank authorities in which he had an active account, lured the accused with a dummy transaction of Rs. 1 lakh. Once the accused visited the bank, the police nabbed him immediately.
After the arrest, the police discovered that similar kind of cheating case against the accused was registered in parts of Assam Rajasthan and Siliguri, “The accused is a professional fraudster, he has similar kind of cases registered at parts of Assam, Rajasthan and Siliguri. It was also discovered that he used fake credentials to avail sim cards and bank accounts” informed SP
The accused Sanjay Jangid is under Sikkim police custody and has been booked under IPC 420:Cheating and IPC 406:Criminal breach of trust.
