Sikkim constitutes its Mahila Shakti Kendra District Task Force at West Sikkim

Gangtok, December 11: Pradhan Mantri Mahila Shakti Kendra (PMMSK) is a scheme introduced by the central government and approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs CCEA in the year 2017, the prime motive behind the scheme is to empower women and bring equality within.

The guidelines under the scheme allow the creation of task force at national, state and district levels.

Following this, Sikkim’s first Mahila Shakti Kendra District Taskforce was constituted in the west district, on December 09, 2020. The meeting was chaired by the District Collector Karma Bonpo along with MSK chairperson and SP west and other officials. 

In the meeting, the empowerment of women at rural level by providing them opportunities for the development of skills along with digital exposure were discussed. The committee also ensured that they will work towards empowering rural women through community participation.

The district task force committee was constituted, Karma Bonpo District Collector West Sikkim was made the Chairperson along with a Women Welfare Officer as the Member Secretary and departmental officers as members of the task force.

During the meeting, the DC Karma Bonpo mentioned that the task force will monitor the implementation and functioning of the women empowerment bypassed on the centre and the state.

Furthermore, Bonpo also stressed the participation of students on the promotion of women empowerment and gender equality, so that they could serve as the agents of change in the coming days.
