Results of suspected second COVID-19 death shows negative: Health Secretary
Gangtok, July 26: All those who kept quiet for fear of jinxing it, silently hoping and vigorously praying that Sikkim wouldn’t have any death due to COVID-19, have now seen their worst fears realised.
Sikkim is staggering through the news of its first COVID death. A 74-year-old man, a former school headmaster, who succumbed to COVID, and the additional issues of having conditions like diabetes and hypertension at around 8:30 AM on Sunday morning.
News of another rumoured COVID-19 death soon followed in which a 24-year-old female was reported to pass away due to the virus. The woman wasn’t a resident of Sikkim and worked as a domestic helper at a household in East Sikkim.
But as per latest information received from DG-cum-Secretary, Health, Dr. Pempa T. Bhutia, the test report of the 24-year-old COVID-19 suspect female who died at STNM Hospital today has come negative. It has been ascertained that she did not die of Covid-19.
Sikkim Chronicle advises all of its patrons to be patient while sharing the news and be calm while receiving it. It is a serious case of the incursion of COVID-19 into the state and more than despairing of hearing about the first death by the virus, we hope it stays at one. We advise everyone to act with empathy and reason. Please keep your faith, stay home and stay safe.
