PM Modi addresses the nation: Lockdown may have ended but the virus is still here, says PM
October 20: In his seventh address since the pandemic struck the nation of India, PMNarendra Modi spoke about an array of issues relating to public safety, battling the pandemic and embracing the new normal. On October 11th 2020 the nation crossed 70 lakh mark.
PM Modi said as the festive season is upon the nation the markets will be lively and the public will be crowding. In this light, he reminded the people that even though the lockdowns have been pulled down, the virus is still here.
“We have come a long way since Janta curfew, and as the people have gone back to their works, the danger of coronavirus is not yet over. India has done far better than a lot of other more resourceful countries. India’s fatality rate is lower than developed countries,” PM Modi said.
PM Modi informed that the death rate in India due to the virus is 83 per million population, whereas, in countries such as the US, UK, Brazil, etc., the number is over 600. This is a clear example that India is faring better and doing better in saving the lives of its citizens than other prosperous countries. PM Modi also requested the people not to be careless as the nation soon will cross the list of 100 Million people tested. He also nodded to the efforts that our frontline workers have put in and thanked the health workers for their service towards such a massive population.
He also pointed out to people who have stopped taking precautions, people who have stopped following the norms and wearing masks. “If you’re walking without a mask, you are not only putting yourself in danger, but also your family, your children, and the elderly in danger. Do not be careless,” PM Modi said. PM asked the people to be cautious until a vaccine is created, he said that several versions of vaccines are being developed in India and have reached an advanced stage. He said that the government has been working to prepare the nation so to ensure the vaccine, once created, to reach every Indian as soon as possible.
Quoting Kabir from Raamchitranaama PM Modi said that an enemy, or a mistake or an ailment should never be underestimated, therefore every Indian should not underestimate the COVID threat. “We are going through a difficult period, a small bit of carelessness can stop our journey forward, it might hamper our happiness. If we carry our duties towards life and vigilance together, only then we can have happiness,” PM Modi said while cautioning people to follow SOPs of social distancing while celebrating festivals like Dussehra, Diwali, Eid, Guru Nanak Jayanti, etc.
