New units of CDC Rumtek inaugrated today
(IPR) Hon'ble Minister for Agriculture and Horticulture Departments, Government of Sikkim, Shri Lok Nath Sharma inaugurated newly constructed Ticket Counter, Display Unit and Sale Counter of Cymbidium Development Centre (CDC), Rumtek, East Sikkim, today.
With this, the Cymbidium Development Centre, Rumtek will generate farm revenue from the visitors besides other revenue generating activities through selling of tissue culture plants and cut flowers of Cimbidium.
The Inaugural programme was also attended by Hon'ble Area MLA of Rumtek Martam Constituency-cum-Chairman of Denzong Agriculture Cooperative Society Shri Sonam Tshering Venchungpa and the Hon'ble Chairman of Krishi Kalyan Board Shri Phurden Lepcha. The programme also had the presence of Additional Chief Secretary-cum-Agriculture Production Comissioner Shri A.K Yadav, Secretary Agriculture Shri Rinzing C Bhutia, Secretary Horticulture Shri M.T Sherpa, Senior Officials of Agriculture & Horticulture Departments, Zilla Panchayat, Panchayats and farmers.
Thereafter, the Hon'ble Minister along with the dignitaries visited Orchid Conservatory, Display Unit, Sales Counter, Tissue Culture and other infrastructures. Joint Director CDC Miss Pema Choden Bhutia thoroughly briefed on the technical aspects of every existing sections of Cymbidium cultivation and other components.
Addressing the Inaugural function, Hon'ble Minister Shri Lok Nath Sharma applauded the existing potential of CDC and congratulated the entire team for developing the centre extraordinarily to set an example. He also advised to establish branches of CDC at district level to attract farmers towards floriculture.
He also underlined various schemes and programmes like Development Through Credit initiated by the State government to start up floriculture and other entrepreneurship. He also touched upon encouraging initiative of financial incentives initiated by the state government under the leadership of the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Sikkim Shri P S Tamang ( Golay) to increase production and benefit the farmers. He also informed that the farmers of piggery farming will also be provided incentives in near future.
Addressing the gathering, Hon'ble MLA Shri Sonam Tshering Venchungpa congratulated the CDC for impressive output of the Cymbidium Development Centre. He also came out with several advises for marketing of the Cymbidium and other varieties of flowers. Shri Venchungpa also assured to enhance marketing through Denzong Agriculture Cooperative Society.
Secretary Horticulture Shri MT Sherpa highlighted on the objectives behind starting up ticketing and selling counter with Display Unit to generate revenue for the State government. He articulated on the efforts made to bring out impressive potential of the Centre and informed that the CDC has also imparted training to twelve hundred trainees so far.
