New Delhi, July 27 – MP Indrahang Subba has called for the inclusion of Gurung, Rai, Sherpa, and Tamang languages in the CBSE curriculum for schools in Sikkim. In a crucial meeting with CBSE Chairman Shri Rahul Singh, Subba highlighted the importance of affiliating these languages at the Senior Secondary level.
Subba addressed the government’s primary concern regarding low enrollment figures, which has been cited as the main reason for excluding these languages. Drawing on the successful introduction of Limboo, Lepcha, and Bhutia languages at the higher secondary level, he demonstrated that such initiatives have historically led to increased enrollment and significant linguistic development.
He emphasized that the Rai, Sherpa, Tamang, and Gurung communities have substantial populations in Sikkim. Including their native languages in the curriculum would not only boost enrollment but also support the preservation and growth of these languages.
Chairman Singh attentively listened to Subba’s arguments and assured him of careful consideration. He committed to addressing the matter and making every effort to fulfill this justified demand.
Expressing optimism, MP Indrahang Subba stated, “I am hopeful that, with Chairman Singh’s support, we can achieve the inclusion of these important languages in the CBSE curriculum, thereby enriching our educational framework and supporting the preservation of our linguistic heritage.”
This development marks a significant step towards promoting linguistic diversity and cultural preservation in Sikkim.
