Pawan Chamling commenting on the third anniversary of the SKM government has said that it was the third anniversary of governance for a handful of SKM leaders and their business partners in Siliguri and elsewhere but for Sikkim and true Sikkim lovers, it was the third anniversary of the ruin, sale and emptying of Sikkim. The day marks the loss of peace, freedom, rights, privileges and security in Sikkim. He also condemned the fact that SKM party has formed Goley’s Dhunga-Muda Reserve Battalion to exploit misguided youth. When the SKM government will be gone in 2024, those misguided youth will have just stones in their hand. Finally he said that the SKM leaders saying that the SDF did nothing while sitting in the grand government offices built by the SDF government is like spiting in the wind.
“ How would you rate the SKM government’s achievements as they celebrated their third anniversary of forming the government just a few days ago?
Ans: It was the third anniversary of governance for a handful of SKM leaders but for Sikkim and true Sikkim lovers, it was the third anniversary of the ruin, sale and emptying of Sikkim. It was the third anniversary of lawlessness, political violence, anarchy and restlessness. The day marks the loss of peace, freedom, rights, privileges and security in Sikkim. It was a day of victory for a few SKM leaders and their partners in Siliguri and elsewhere who have been buying Sikkimese assets and establishing their commercial kingdom in Sikkim. But for Sikkim, it was a day of mourning for the loss of Sikkimese pride, dignity and assets. Sikkim has become the land of fortune and untold opportunities for those who have nothing to do with Sikkim and for true Sikkimese, Sikkim has become an elusive land.
Hundreds of Sikkimese people have been blinded by this government due to a few political stunts such as the Chief Minister taking a picture with them, passing them a brown envelope with a few thousand rupees, and eating meals in roadside dhabas. The Chief Minister stays in a five star hotel in Siliguri costing more than three lakh per night (the entire top floor of the Mayfair hotel) and then eats at a road side dhaba – a stunt which is then shamelessly promoted by SKM’s media. Everyone knows how hypocritical that is. A few hard-core supporters have received new vehicles, big amounts of cash, contract works, jobs through the back door, choice postings, etc. However, what they have failed to realize is that their short-term gain has been at the huge cost of the state with Sikkim losing its true Sikkimese-ness.
While they enjoy short-term gains, the fat-cats are running away with all of Sikkim’s assets. Sikkim has been left empty for future generations. When they realize it tomorrow, it will be too late. What is extremely worrisome is that this government has been able to blind the eyes of a big chunk of the Sikkimese population with entertainment like machha mela, cycle rally, tambola, pratibad julus, Sikkim idol, and all kinds of melas in Gandhi Marg. Now the government has announced a 50 lakh cash prize for the winner of a singing contest. The show of money power is the supreme tactic of this Sikkim-seller Chief Minister.
The most disturbing reality of all had been the creation of “Golay’s Dhunga-Muda Reserve Battalion” (GDRB). These misguided youth have been hired by the Chief Minister to pelt stones at the supporters of the opposition parties. How unfortunate! While these misguided youth are pelting stones at their own brothers and sisters, anti-Sikkimese elements are selling Sikkim to outsiders. When the SKM government will be gone in 2024, these poor youth will have nothing but a few stones left in their hands. The SKM party is destroying the creativity of these youth and instead encouraging criminal and destructive tendencies amongst them. A new era of criminalization of politics, political terrorism and organized crime and corruption has become institutionalised in Sikkim. Political propaganda and blatant lying by politicians has become the norm. Alongside this, the government machinery is being misused and politicized by the current SKM party, especially the police force.
As a concerned Sikkimese, I not only hesitate to congratulate the government for their completion of three years, but I openly mourn the fact that Sikkim is losing greatly under the watch of this inefficient government. Let the liars count their achievements. Ironically, they are seated in the grand government offices built by our SDF government while they dismiss our achievements. This is nothing but a classic case of the arrogant SKM leaders spitting in the wind or sawing off the branch they are sitting on. Things have come to such pass that even a citizen and a political leader from a fellow state coming to Sikkim for emergency medical treatment has been shamelessly brandished by the SKM as their achievement. I never thought I would see such shamelessness in my lifetime.
Finally, I appeal to the people of Sikkim to count the losses Sikkim has incurred during the last three years. As someone aptly said, it was the second last anniversary of the SKM government. I second it and I am confident that this destructive anti-Sikkimese regime will be uprooted in 2024.”
