Health Secretary informs of 18 new cases, Sikkim’s tally stands at 340 active cases
gangtok, July24: According to the daily Health Bulletin by Director General cum Health Secretary Dr Pempa Tshering Bhutia, Sikkim’s total cases now stand at 477, while active cases have reached 340.
The East district reported 11 new cases, with a total of 346 cases; West district reported seven new case, standing at 40 active cases; South District reported no new cases keeping its tally to 91 and North District’s total cases stand at one with no new cases reported.
Dr Bhutia further informed that among the new cases, eight have been reported via Rapid Antigen testing out of 234 tests conducted, while other the other ten via RT-PCR out of 303 samples. He said that 62 tests were conducted in TrueNat, and all resulted negative.
While giving the breakdown of the cases, Dr Bhutia said that among the 10 positive patients reported in RT-PCR testing, two are from the quarantine centre of Eco-Paradise Resort of East Sikkim, one from Tashi Namgyal Academy premises, while four SSB personnel from Yuksom and three SSB personnel from Melli Aching from West Sikkim.
All the 10 patients have been shifted to New STNM Hospital, Sochaygang. Eight positive cases reported in Rapid Antigen testing are from Rangpo and Nandok, Pakyong of East Sikkim.
In Rangpo, 43 tests were conducted out of which 11 were returnees who tested negative and 32 separate tests were conducted after contact tracing at Chanatar and Rangpo of the earlier positive case out of which five reported the same result.
Three reported positive from Nandok, Pakyong from the 25 tests conducted by Rapid Antigen testing kit. All the eight patients have been shifted to Himalayan Pharmacy Boys’ Hostel of Majhitar of East Sikkim.
In Rongli, 130 tests were conducted of which all reported negative.
Similarly in Rhenock of East Sikkim, only two tests were conducted from the Flu Clinic which all resulted negative and in Singtam District hospital all tests resulted of 29 samples taken for Rapid Antigen testing.
Dr Bhutia also informed that five patients of the active cases are admitted in ICU for high-frequency oxygen. He added that samples of all the primary contacts of Arithang in Gangtok have been collected. Similarly, 157 samples of recent positive patient contacts of Zydus Wellness Center in Mamring, South Sikkim and 17 samples of Timburbong contacts in Jorethang, South Sikkim have also been collected, today.
Dr Bhutia requested people to home quarantine if exposed to any positive COVID-19 patient or situation and test only after the sixth day of exposure which will preserve the resources and also more than health personnel, people can save themselves. He also expressed his gratitude towards health workers as well as Anganwadi and ASHA workers for working even in containment zones to combat the spread of COVID-19.
