Dr. Pemba T. Bhutia confirms active cases at 38
Gangtok, June 28: In the latest Health Bulletin by Dr. Pemba T. Bhutia, Secretary cum Director-General of Health & Family Welfare Department informed that the total tally of active cases are 38 as three more confirmed cases have recovered and were discharged on June 27 with one confirmed case being discharged on June 28th, which has brought the number of discharged patients at 49.
The latest patient is a 22-year-old male who was quarantined at SSB Camp at Rhenock, East Sikkim and earlier had stayed in a quarantine facility in Siliguri before entering Sikkim. Upon complaints of back-ache, the patient was transferred to the COVID-19 wing of STNM Hospital where his samples were collected and upon testing, he was confirmed positive for COVID-19. Samples were taken at Rhenock by the doctors tending to the patient, as well.
Dr. Pemba applauded this awareness and quick thinking on part of the doctors and has assured that the healthcare workers involved with COVID-19 are prepared and are precautionary. The doctor involved with sending the patient to STNM Hospital after a routine check-up as well as the Dental Attendant and Lab Technician who collected the 22-year-old confirmed patient’s samples have all been quarantined at a facility, and tests will be conducted on them.
Around 50 people had been quarantined at SSB Rhenock, East Sikkim along with the 22-year-old confirmed patient, Dr. Pemba has assured that COVID-19 testing will be conducted on all after they complete 6 days of facility quarantine, till then the facility will be turned into a containment zone. Contract tracing of all those who came in direct contact with the patient has begun along with those who came in contact with the Doctor who treated him before sending the patient to STNM Hospital, the Dental Attendant, and the Lab Technician who collected his swab samples.
