CM tests for COVID-19 at his residence, appeals to the public to follow guidelines

Gangtok, July 16: The RTPCR testing for COVID-19 was organised at the Chief Minister’s residence in Lumsey, earlier today. A total of 95 samples were collected from the CM’s home, including those of Sarda Tamang and MLA Aditya Tamang, resident security personnel and staff.

The samples were collected by the Urban Sampling team led by Sampling Incharge Dr. Kunzang Lepcha, Medical Officer from Urban PHC, Old STNM, Gangtok under the guidance of Health Authority, STNM, Hospital. A team of Gangtok Municipal Corporation led by Senior Supervisor, R. P. Subba were also present to sanitize the premises.

Chief Minister congratulated the team and expressed gratitude to the entire Health workers and the COVID-19 warriors for their selfless dedication and uninterrupted service. All the 95 persons have to wait for 48 hours for the results, as per protocol.

Tamang through his Facebook post also expressed gratitude towards the COVID warriors and asked the general public to follow guidelines.

“I express my gratitude to the entire health workers and our COVID Warriors for their selfless dedication and uninterrupted service. We will be conducting tests on a broader scale in the coming days to ensure the safety of the Sikkimese people,” read the post.

“We are currently in Unlock 2.0 phase which means that certain restrictions have been eased. This is done to revive economic activities and not be considered as a total withdrawal of restrictions.

It is my humble appeal to our citizens that we must still follow the guidelines set during the different phases of lockdown and to be more cautious and vigilant at this moment now more than ever.

It is time for us to be responsible citizens and participate in making Sikkim safe against the virus. We need to urge everyone to refrain from going out until necessary, follow social distancing norms, safety protocols and co-operate with our frontline warriors, working tirelessly for our safety. As citizens, we must work towards the safety and welfare of our loved ones, frontline warriors and most importantly our motherland Sikkim. We are all in this together and will persevere with our collective effort.”
