As the State Film Promotion Board (SFPB), Government of Sikkim gears up for hosting the second edition of Global Film Festival on December 10-14, the excitement amongst the young budding filmmakers and artistes in the state of Sikkim is very conspicuous at present. The five-day long Film Festival is scheduled to be organised at the Eco-Heritage Film village at Yangang, South Sikkim and Tsogmo Lake with an objective to promote Sikkim as a film shooting destination and a potential film tourism hub in a location catalogue titled “100 Film Shooting Destinations in Sikkim”
The five-day long event will have inauguration ceremony, felicitation program, film screening, producers and investors meet’, fashion show, cultural exhibition, master class with National and Regional level film technical experts, art performances, film and video competition etc.
Adding more to its vigour is the recent announcement of many international and national filmmakers and also celebrated faces from Bollywood to participate in the event.
Veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan is also confirmed to attend the Sikkim Global Film Festival 2021. He is a celebrated and ace filmmaker from Bollywood with good flicks like Hera Pheri, Hulchul, Bhagam Bhag, Malamaal Weekly, Chup Chup Ke, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Khatta Meetha and others to his credits.
Likewise, State Film Promotion Board Chairperson Pooja Sharma also confirms the attendance of Akashaditya Lama, a well known screen writer and filmmaker from Bollywood who has written acclaimed Hindi film ‘Mohenjodaro’ and other celebrated film ‘Gadar Ek Prem Katha’. Lama also is a writer, dialogue writer, and a theatre artist.
To his credits are also India’s popular daily soaps like ‘Kkusum, Kumkum, Jhilmil Sitaron Ka Angan Hoga, Akrosh, Kabhi aaye na Judai, Pyar ke do naam naam ek radha ek shyam, Celena Blue Jean, Akula Miki and many more.
Apart from writing, Akashaditya Lama has served as a member and jury in Government of India’s various cultural as well film bodies like Central Board of Film Certification, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Financial Grant Committee, Ministry of Culture and National Film Awards 2018,Indian Panorama, and IFFI 2019.
Sikkim young filmmakers is assuming this event to be the confluence of an experienced filmmakers and the budding ones.
The coming of Bollywood diva Malaika Arora in the festival is also making buzz on social media but the official confirmation is still pending as per the sources.
