Gangtok, April 2(IPR): The Municipal Returning Officer East Shri Ragul K. informed that all necessary preparations for counting of votes for Municipal Elections, 2021 in East District on 3rd April have been made at District Administrative Centre, East. A total of twenty four wards (15 under Gangtok Municipal Corporation, 5 wards of Singtam Nagar Panchayat and 4 of Rangpo Nagar Panchayat) in East District went for polls on 31st March 2021.
It may be mentioned here that the five different wards have already been declared uncontested, namely, Arithang-I ward, Deorali-Upper Syari ward, Lower Tadong-6th Mile ward, Upper Sichey ward under Gangtok Municipal Corporation and Chanatar ward of Rangpo Nagar Panchayat.
The Strong Room will be opened at 7:30 am on the counting day under the supervision of MRO East in presence of Election Observers, Candidates and their Election agents. Thereafter, the polled Electronic Voting Machines will be shifted to the Counting Hall set up at DAC for counting process. The counting procedures will begin at 8 am sharp with postal ballots followed by counting of recorded votes in EVMs and compilation of data.
MRO further informed that a total of five tables have been set up at Counting Hall and the counting shall be taken up ward wise. As many as twenty Counting Supervisors and Counting Assistants shall be assigned to the respective counting tables for counting of votes along with their Incharge. The officials and staff who are engaged in Election duty, counting officials, candidates and Election agents who have been issued ID cards for counting shall only be allowed entry to the counting hall. All necessary procedures of counting of votes will also be video recorded and the results will be announced through Public Address System, he informed.
