Sikkim’s COVID-19 active tally at 499, East district reports all the new 46 cases

Gangtok, August 21: According to the daily Health Bulletin by Director General cum Health Secretary Dr Pempa T. Bhutia, 46 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Sikkim, taking the state’s total cases to 1336, with 499 active cases, 834 cured and discharged and three deaths.

East district reported all the fresh cases, bringing its total to a cumulative of 832 cases.

The Health Secretary informed that among the new cases 41 have been reported via RT-PCR out of 428 tests conducted, while the other five via Rapid Antigen testing, out of 200 samples.

Among the new cases tested positive through RT-PCR, 22 are from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police under Sang Primary Health Center, nine are contacts of a resident of IBM Rangpo amongst whom one is an Ambulance driver at Alkem Pharmaceutical company. Five are from the Railway Guesthouse where IT personnel (tested positive) were staying, three from the Flu Clinic of New STNM Hospital Sochyakgang, one from Zydus Pharmaceutical company and one from a Paid Quarantine in East District.

Via Rapid Antigen testing, two tested positive in Rangpo – one is a Safai Karmachari working at the Rapid Antigen Testing centre, Rangpo and the other is an employee at CIPLA, Kumrek who have been shifted to Himalayan Pharmacy COVID Care Center.

The last three who tested positive are from Singtam. One resided in the Containment zone of Ghoshkhan Dara and the other two are from Chalamthang.

He requested the public to not panic if they’ve come into contact with infected people and follow the protocols in place.
